Honoring Chaplain Tommy Cooley on Veterans Day Week

In honor of Veterans Day, I remember Captain Tommy Cooley, Army Chaplain. In 1964 he was stationed in Vietnam with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Chaplain Cooley was the first chaplain to be assigned to a combat zone since the Korean War. He was asked to say a prayer during Bob Hope's visit to Nha Trang and was shown in the Christmas with the Troops special on television that year. Tommy Cooley was a member of my home church, Morgan United Methodist Church.
